A struggle launched against the vindication of the rights of women and violence way back in 1908 gradually led to the United Nations Charter, the 1st international agreement to honor gender equality and the year 1975 to be designated as the ‘International Women’s Year’. International Women’s Day -- an event which originated in 1910 in Copenhagen as a women’s rights movement, in the 21st century has become a mere reminder of how much has been achieved and how much is still there to be achieved.
